BS&A Software Blog

Managing projects can be a difficult proposition. In the world of Community Development, this generally means managing multiple departments to ensure many different tasks are performed before a project is complete.

Luckily, the BS&A Building Department .NET application is fully equipped with the latest in project management features to help take your development project from the planning and engineering phases all the way through the construction permitting process, and on to the prized Final Certificate of Occupancy.

Projects also allow you to receipt performance bonds, then manage them through releases and forfeits. The program even allows you to withhold funds to pay for outstanding fees on the project.

The Project module doesn’t stop with bonds either; a newly added feature allows you to collect and maintain escrow funds as well. Escrow money can be deposited into accounts, which can be paid out to contracted vendors when you are invoiced for their services. If you are using the BS&A Accounts Payable .NET application, this process is performed electronically. Necessary journal entries are even created and posted.

All of this is done through the Project module included with the Building Department application. Each step of the project is added as a requirement that must be fulfilled before the project can be considered complete.

Permits, Bonds, Inspections, and Certificates of Occupancy can all be added as requirements to be met. User-defined Requirements can also be used to define steps outside of the program-designed procedures.

You are able to configure as many project type templates as you need in order to make the addition of a new project quick and easy. This flexibility allows you to define the steps for something as simple as an accessory structure or as complex as a new subdivision. Relating projects to each other makes it easy to start with a Subdivision Plat Project and continue on through each phase of the construction of the homes within your new development.

The Project module is, of course, wedded with the same powerful reporting engine that allows you to create other complex reports needed. We even include a library of reports for your use right out of the box.

We encourage you to use this powerful tool to assist you in your project management role.  It is recommended that you schedule on-site training to help set up and configure your project module for the first time, especially if you plan on leveraging its full potential.

The BS&A assessing/tax software is easy to use and navigate. The data link between the two modules helps maintain the records and saves time that would otherwise be needed to update. The fact that Wayne County uses the same system makes it easier to communicate and to reconcile reports as well. On top of all this is the excellent customer support provided from BS&A staff, who never get tired of questions and resolve all issues to our satisfaction.
